Looking at the picture, what immediate caught my attention was the pilot nose. Seem too sharp for an Asian and more like an Westerner (nose-wise) so I had my doubt just looking at the pilot.

Let's put it this way: the very fact SDF has this news indicates that at least we're part of the tier 1 outsiders community to get the latest juiciest info regardless of authenticity. And now the interesting part: we also need news like this where it turns out as bogus, and then when we are quick to admit our error as well, we will differentiate ourselves from the denials and the other bashers as being truly critical thinkers and accepting the reality. they may call us pro-china before, but after incidents like these, we've demonstrated that we aren't denials like they are, and we are capable of accepting defeat.

Well guess some of us forgot the time tested rule that if sth looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

Given this came right out of the blue, I think more people would have been a lot more cautious and sceptical if the quaility of the CG work hasn't been so superb.

I know I took a long hard look at it and didn't find any tell tale signs that the picture had been doctored, and I am sure I wasn't the only one who couldn't tell it was a fake till the maker presented proof.

This is an impressive accomplishment by the artist, but presents headaches for the rest of us when we are trying to tell in the future if a leaked picture is real or not.

I guess the only rule of thumb that seems to hold true is that the more different angled shots we get, the greater the chance that it's a real deal, and we cannot be confident froma single image no matter how convincing it looks.

Well I knew it wasn't a PS, problem is, when you are dealing with good CGs, it is almost impossible to tell.

Hmmm ... actually I don't undestand that problem, since it "a bit" different to the many J-10-Fakes we saw over the years.

They were made by manipulatied original photos ... often more or lesss good or bad.
But now with the quality of a complete CG, done in such a professional way that You can't decide if it's real or "imagination" makes it much more difficult. As such like plawolf said we could only be sure after we got several "photos" in different angles and perspectives.

But my biggest concern that makes me angry is what Hongjian said at the CDF:

Doing CG's is one thing. But presenting them as 'leaks' is just outright criminal! :gotobat:

But still... these other things like the model and CAD is real... maybe there is still hope for the JH-7B despite this masterful trolling.

I think you give them too much credit. They aren't that clever and organized.

Usually when new picts of planes leak out the big shrimps often have disagreements over the authenticity of the pictures. This time, however, every single one of them claim that the picture is a fake. Very strange situation.
