I remember seeing a pic of a J-11 carrying a missile what looked like PL-10 months ago (the old one, without the strakes) and it looked pretty long.
I thought that was a telemetry pod?

PL-10 is an old-airframe. no need to use that?

Dunno. I didn't DL the picture so we can't judge now.

We are talking about the same missile right?
Doesn't seem old, considering it hasn't even entered service yet.

an end of the year propoganda piece by Chinese aerospace newspaper on Chinese AAM projects

it talks about a lot of different testing and success.
It mentions a new generation radar product in air launched testing succeeded.
It talks about a new typed of infrared product passing testing.
not really sure the difference between the first and 3rd test.
Anyhow, until we actually see the missiles, it's hard to say what is now ready.

Yup, they will not let a old J-11A to handles latest tech... But be at least a J-11B class fighter.

    Re: Chinese AAM

Has anyone seen any updates or prototypes of the rumoured PL-10 short range AAM and/or the PL-12D / PL-21 longer range, ramjet powered AAM?

After a lot of web chatter in 2009-11, it's gone all quiet... you'd assume that these systems and newer AGM capable of internal carriage (J-20) would be in development as new platforms like the J-20 and J-10B are put through exhaustive testing prior to achieving IOC... any updates???
