basically says that PLAAF just made its biggest ever order for Y-8 from SAC of the Y-8C variant.

Why are the PLAAF going for the Y-8, don't they already have the Y-9 under development?

perhaps the Y-9 developement is still not gonna be ready anytime soon and they needed to improve their transport plane capacities and capability urgently. Anyway, Y-8 is a good and proven plane, so it will basically fills in the gap until the better Y-9 is in service.

I suppose that must be the only reason...

I can't believe it's taking them this long to develop such a plane.

But they could get a more capable Y8 version, like one of the six bladed propeller ones (basically KJ-200 without radar and avionics and such).

what choice do you think they have? All their special missions Y-8 planes are using the Y-8F600 or Y-8F400 platforms, so the transports have to use the less advanced Y-8C.

They've been lacking a large fleet of transports for some time now. I was under the impression that they finally managed to start re-negotiating the Il-76 deal. Will this sudden, pragmatic solution indicate that the talks are still going nowhere and the PLAAF finally couldn't wait any longer?

中新社上海十一月二日电(宗晨亮)中国可匹配国产大飞机c919的首款国产飞机发动机的模型,二日在上海国 际工业博览会预展上首次揭开面纱。

同时,中航商用飞机发动机有限责任公司在此间透露,公司将于明年初步建立涡扇发动机总体设计体系,目前已组 织开展关键技术攻关。

在此次工博会上,中航商用飞机发动机有限责任公司共展出三个展品。其中,发动机sf-a由中航商发设计、研制,可满足大型客机的动力需求。此外,还展示了中国航空工业集团公司研制的推力三千至 四千公斤力涡扇发动机模型和串装件。其中,前者可作为商务飞机或支线飞机的动力,由一级风扇、三级增压压气 机、七级高压压气机等部分组成。串装件展示了民用航空发动机的主要零部件,中航工业具备按照国际标准生产民 用航空发动机部件的能力。

中航商用飞机发动机有限责任公司由中国航空工业集团公司、上海电气集团、上海国盛集团共同出资组建,主要从 事中国商用飞机发动机及其相关产品的设计、研制、总装、试车、销售服务、技术开发与技术咨询业务。公司最终 注册资本六十亿元人民币。

目前,公司计划于今年底完成临时研发办公环境的建设工作,在上海组建约一百至一百五十人的研发队伍,于明年 完成涡扇发动机总体设计,初步具备涡扇发动机总体设计技术能力。
translation said a mock up of jet engine for C-919 passenger aircraft was shown in shanghai exhibition.is there any more info,or a picture?

Exactly, couldn't they use the Y-8F600 or 400 instead of the Y-8C at least? I mean, what's stopping them using the same planes they have used for their gaoxin Y-8's?

they need different parts for those planes, they have separate assembly lines for different variants of Y-8s.

cost. Afterall the Y-8 are only aircraft to fill the gap until Y-9 or IL-76 came in. So there really is no need for too advance an aircraft which will cost a bomb.

Hmm.. Very good analysis and very true.

Presently, China airborne troops can go for light mechanized. Those 10tons and 15tons armour vehicle can easily accomodate into Y-8 for transportation. Highly lethal in firepower and fast in speed but no need for greater protection.

Yeah. If they are having lots of trouble developing y-9, how can they develop Y-xx (c-17/il-76 class)? Unless y-9 is not being propelly funded/supported or even cancelled...

they are just not putting that much resource into Y-9 when Y-8F600 is already doing everything that they need for the special missions platform. Y-9 was basically abandoned for a while there.

11月6日是中国航空工业集团成立一周年纪念日。今天上午9时许,记者在媒体日上了解到,中国的大飞机生产 有最新进展,军用、民用大飞机均在生产中。

中航集团飞机公司胡晓峰总经理向记者透露,中国空军军用200吨级大飞机具体实物飞机将在年底亮相,这款飞 机从研发、生产制造过程全部由中航工业西飞公司独立完成。而由中航承担中国民用航空大飞机80吨级的C91 9飞机零部件也在加紧生产中,将如期交付中国商飞集团。

记者同时获悉,由中航工业自发研制的L15“猎鹰”高级教练机将首次走出国门,参加11月份举办的迪拜航展 。L15猎鹰高级教练机将在航展上进行飞行表演,与国外教练机进行竞争,主打国际教练机市场。

目前,已经有不少国家的空军派出飞行员来我国进行试飞体验,中航预计将会赢得不少订单。
